Kolkata, along with other parts of the globe, remembered Nobel Peace laureate Mother Teresa on her 15th death anniversary on Wednesday.
Special prayer meetings were held at the Headquarters’ of the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata to mark the day. Floral tributes were also offered at the grave of the Mother.
Speaking at the prayer meeting the Superior-General of the Missionaries of Charity, Sister Prema said that they are celebrating the day as the Feast Day – a day for going home of Mother to Jesus. After the beatification of Mother Teresa, the Roman Catholic Church declared the day as the Feast Day – a day for joy and celebration.
AIR Kolkata Correspondent reports that Albania born Mother Teresa came to India in 1929 at the age of 18 years and became an Indian citizen in 1948.
In 1950, she founded the Missionaries of Charity and dedicated her life to the service of poor and destitute children.
