World Population Day is being observed today. The objective is to increase the awareness among people towards worldwide population issues. The theme this year is, 'Family Planning- Empowering People, Developing Nations'.<br/><br/>On the occasion, Union Health Minister JP Nadda launched the second phase of family planning campaign and logistic management information system. He also unveiled posters for enhanced awareness on family planning. <br/><br/>Speaking at the function in New Delhi, Mr Nadda said, India plays a very crucial and critical role in global efforts towards population stabilization. <br/><br/>He said, thge government has increased the basket of choices of contraceptives including the injectable. The Minister stressed on the importance of maintaining quality in service delivery of family planning products. <br/><br/>Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel said, collective efforts are required for population stabilisation. She said there is a need to multiply efforts towards family planning for a developed nation.

The theme of this year is Family Planning- Empowering People, Developing Nations. <br/><br/>Family planning allows people to attain their desired number of children and determine the spacing of pregnancies. The world population has grown tremendously over the past years. <br/><br/>China has the highest population in the world and India stood at second. Health and Family Welfare Ministry has organised various programmes today. <br/><br/>The Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989 recommended July 11 as World Population Day to draw attention to the urgency and importance of population issues.'
