World No Tobacco Day being observed today

World No Tobacco Day is being observed on Monday. This year the focus will be on Gender and Tobacco with a special emphasis on marketing to women. The aim is to promote a healthy lifestyle and advocate abstinence from the use of nicotine. <br/> <br/>Recognising widespread consumption of nicotine has a cause for alarm, the Ministry of Health and Family welfare in collaboration with several organisations will launch an awareness drive. <br/> <br/>The endeavour is to discourage consumption of nicotine especially marketing of the hazardous substance to women. <br/> <br/>On World No Tobacco Day the WHO will encourage governments to curb the increasing prevalence of nicotine addiction so as to reduce the toll of crippling disease induced by tobacco consumption which have become increasingly widespread among women.<br/> <br/>
