Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said the world no longer ridicules India of clocking Hindu rate of growth. Addressing a function in New Delhi, Mr Jaitley said economic liberlisation has helped Indian economy grow at a faster pace.

He said, the constituency that favours reforms today is much more than those who oppose it and country can grow at a faster rate generating more resources to fund anti-poverty schemes. The moderate growth rate of two to 2.5 per cent recorded till 1980s was described by economists as Hindu rate of growth.

The Finance Minister said it was India's misfortune that economic liberlisation which happened in 1991 should have started 20 years back and 1970s-80s would not have been wasted. He said in the two decades, the government of the day instead of focusing on increasing productivity and wealth generation concentrated on distribution of existing inadequate resources which distributed poverty.
