Star shuttler Saina Nehwal stormed into the women singles final of India Open Super Series by hammering Japan's Yuo Hashimoto 21-15, 21-11 at the Siri Fort sports complex in New Delhi today. Saina, who reached her maiden final, looked shaky at the start, but held her composure and took the lead quite early as she eased past her opponent in the first game in just 28 minutes. Saina then kept her dominance intact as she did not allow the Japanese to score freely. Saina will now take on Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon in the final tomorrow. Earlier today, Saina Nehwal scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach World number one spot in Badminton World Federation Rankings. Saina reached Number One spot after All England Badminton champion Carolina Marin of Spain lost her semi-final encounter in the Indian Open at the Siri Fort sports complex. President Pranab Mukherjee congratulated Saina Nehwal for achieving the feat. In a tweet, Mr.Mukherjee said, Congrats Saina Nehwal on becoming World no 1 in Badminton well deserved honor; best wishes for Indian Open Semi Final. It is the first time that any Indian woman badminton player has been ranked World Number One.
