World Meteorological Day being observed today

World Meteorological Day is being observed today. The theme for this year's is "Hotter, Drier, Wetter. Face the Future". Climate change is disrupting the natural pattern of the seasons, and it is increasing the frequency and intensity of certain extreme weather events, such as heat waves, droughts and heavy rainfall.<br/>AIR correspondent reports the Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC), Visakhapatnam, will be open to the public and school children from 10 AM to 4 PM today in this connection. <br/><br/>Meteorology related exhibits will also be displayed. Meanwhile, the social media is inundated with messages explaining the reason for the unprecedented heat waves being witnessed by the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh for the past couple of days. It said 'equinox phenomenon,' which occurs owing to the Sun directly positioning above the line of Equator, the reason for the hot spell, especially between 12 Noon and 3 PM.<br/><br/>It also said that exposure to Sun would lead to sunstrokes and could lead to dehydration with general precautions such as intake of more fluids to keep hydrated and regular checking of blood pressure. More fruits, less meat and frequent cold showers are the other suggestions made in the message. The weather office in Visakhapatnam says temperatures would go up by three to four degree Celsius in the next few days and heat wave conditions will prevail.
