<span style="color: #222222;">Dr. S S Kale, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, AIIMS has stressed the need to create awareness among the family members with regard to organ donation of those patients who have been declared brain dead after head injury in accidents. Interacting with media as part of the World Head Injury Awareness Day, Dr. Kale said that out of the total accidents, around 15 percent of them sustain severe head injuries who after clinical assessment are declared brain dead. He said, a patient is a certified brain dead by a team of doctors after fulfilling certain criteria like coma and absence of brain stem reflex. Dr. Kale added that in such a situation the family members of such patients should come forward for giving consent for organ donation.<br />”<br />”Speaking more on this important issue, Dr Deepak Kumar Gupta, Department of Neurosurgery, AIIMS said that a person who have been certified brain dead by the doctors can save the life of 8 people by donating his organs like eye, heart, liver, lungs, and Kidney.</span><br />
