International Day for Persons with Disabilities is being observed today to spread awareness about the rights, dignity and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also aims to highlight the importance of integrating disabled persons into all aspects of political, social, economic and cultural life.

This year the theme is Together for a better world for all- including persons with disabilities in development.

AIR correspondent reports that several functions are being organised to mark the day. President Mrs Pratibha Devi Singh Patil will present the National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities at a function in New Delhi this evening.
