In the first fixture on Friday, Brazil will meet the Netherlands in Port Elizabeth at 1930 hours. In the second match on the same day, Uruguay will face Ghana in Johannesburg at Midnight.
In the third quarter-final on Saturday, Argentina will take on Germany in Cape Town, at 1930 hours. The fourth match, between Spain and Paraguay, will be held in Johannesburg at Midnight.
In World Cup Football, Spain and Paraguay have advanced to the quarter-finals. While Spain beat Portugal one-nil, Paraguay defeated Japan 5-3 in penalty shoot-outs.
Spain's victory came in yesterday's last Second Round match at Cape Town. Playing captivating football, Spain beat a resolute Portugal team by a one-nil margin. David Villa scored the match-winner in the 63rd minute. It was Villa's fourth goal of the tournament. One of the highlights of the match was the excellent goal-keeping by Eduardo who made several quality saves to keep Portugal in the game. For Portugal, who also created several chances, their winger Cristiano Ronaldo was lively but mostly ineffective.
European Champions Spain now remain on course to become the first European titlist to add the World Cup since West Germany did it in 1974.
Earlier, in Pretoria, the other match between Japan and Paraguay, went into the first penalty shoot out of the World Cup Finals after the game ended in a goalless stalemate even extra time. For Paraguay, all their penalty takers found the target. For Japan, Yuichi Komaro missed with his shot hitting the crossbar in his team's third spot kick. Japan were Asia's sole surviving representatives in the tournament.
The win sealed Paraguay's maiden quarter-final berth in eight attempts. Paraguay are the fourth South American team to enter the quarter-finals after Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.
