Argentina and Germany have joined Uruguay and Ghana in the quarter-finals of the World Cup Football tournament. At Soccer City in Johannesburg last night, Argentina outplayed Mexico 3-1. For the winners, Carlos Tevez scored twice in the 26th and 52nd minutes. The other goal came through Gonzalo Higuain in the 33rd minute. It was Higuain's fourth goal in the World Cup. For the losers, Hernandiz reduced the margin in the 71st minute.
Earlier at Bloemfontein, Germany put on a superb display to thrash England 4-1 to move into the World Cup last eight. For the winners, Thomas Muller netted twice. The other two goals came through Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski.
Uruguay and Ghana qualified for the last eight stages on Saturday.
In the FIFA World Cup, two matches will be played today in the Round of Sixteen. In the first match, the Netherlands will meet Slovakia in Durban at 1930 hours. In the second encounter, Brazil will play against Chile Johannesburg at Midnight.
