In the ICC Cricket World Cup, England defeated West Indies by 18 runs in their last Group 'B' match at Chennai today. The victory has kept alive England's hopes of a quarter-final berth.England, who made 243 all out in 48.4 overs, defended their total at the Chepauk, with magnificent bowling performances from spinners James Tredwell and Graeme Swann. The West Indies were all out for 225 in 44.4 overs.While Man of the Match Tredwell claimed four wickets for 48 runs, Swann took three for 35. England now have seven points after playing all their six matches. The West Indies have six points from five games. World Cup here on Thursday. The group B is now open with hosts India needing a win to ensure safe passage into the last eight while West Indies will behoping that South Africa comprehensively beat Bangladesh in order to ensure their entry into last eight. On Friday, in a Day Fixture at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, Ireland will meet the Netherlands in Group 'B'.Later in the Day-Night match, New Zealand are scheduled to take on Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.All India Radio will broadcast live commentary on the New Zealand Versus Sri Lanka Group 'A' encounter.
