Today is World Consumer Rights Day. This year's theme is "Our Money, Our Rights." The day was observed for the first time in 1983 with a view to promoting the basic rights of all consumers. Since then, consumers all over the world and related organizations hold various kinds of activities to mark the World Consumer Rights Day.<br/><br/>Minister of State for Consumer Affairs K V Thomas has said that the government will soon propose amendments to the Consumer Protection Act to facilitate speedy disposal of a large number of pending consumer cases.<br/><br/>Addressing a conference on consumer rights in New Delhi yesterday, the minister said, government is in the process of bringing about further amendments to the Act and hope to finalise the draft and introduce the bill in Parliament at the earliest.
