As the Common Wealth Games are approaching fast, the newly-built World class cycling velodrome at the Indira Gandhi stadium complex, New Delhi has been opened for use. Inaugurating the velodrome today Union Sports Minister M.S. Gill said it was built in a record time of 17 months. Complimenting all officials and CPWD engineers for completing the construction in time, he said the organisers should take good care of these world class venues after the Commonwealth Games also. The new velodrome is constructed at the cost of 150 crore rupees to suit the latest international requirements of Track events for the October Games. It is fully covered, air-conditioned and has 250 meter long Timber Track with a seating capacity of 3,800. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Kalmadi and Cycling Federation of India president S S Dhindsa were also present on the occasion.
