World Braille Day is being observed today

World Braille Day is being observed today to honour the French Educationist Louis Braille for the invention of a reading and writing system for visually challenged people. The visually challenged students often face the challenge of not getting subject books in the Braille system.&nbsp;<br />”&nbsp;<br />”In this context, the Central Institute for Classical Tamil in Chennai, an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Education functioning is engaged in translating Classical Tamil Books into several Indian and Foreign languages. It is also engaged in bringing all the books into the Braille system. The Central Government has sanctioned one crore rupees for this project of production of Tamil books in the Braille system. Under this project, for the first time in India, 46 Tamil Literature and Grammar books, a total of 107 volumes were produced in the Braille system.&nbsp;<br />”&nbsp;<br />”In the Inaugural function of Kashi Tamil Sangamam 2.0, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the translation of Thirukkural in five languages and also released 46 Braille books. Ancient Tamil Grammar Book Tolkappiam, Classical Tamil collections Pathuppaattu, Ettuthokai, Thirukkural, Epics of Tamil Silappathikaram and Manimegalai, Medieval Grammar books figure in the list of Braille editions.Director of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil&nbsp; R. Chandrasekaran informed that if a physically challenged Tamil Literature student approaches with a certificate issued by a concerned authority about the disability, the Institute sends the Braille books free of cost. This is a boon to visually challenged Tamil Literature students because getting reading assistants to read classical Tamil is not very easy.<br />”&nbsp;<br />”&nbsp;<br />
