The World Bank will provide 255.5 million dollar assistance to Afghanistan for four development projects in the country. An agreement to this effect was signed by the Afghan Finance Minister Dr. Omar Zakhilwal and the World Bank Vice-President for South Asia Phillipe Le Houerou during the International Monetary Fund-World Bank half yearly meeting in Washington today. A press release issued by the Afghan Finance Ministry in Kabul said the four projects also include two projects for the development Kabul city, a project for the non-formal skill development of Afghan youths and the Central Asia-South Asia electricity transmission line project (CASA 1000).On the sidelines of the IMF-WB meeting Afghan Finance Minister co-chaired the meeting on the Global Partnership for Education in Afghanistan with UN Special Envoy Gordon Brown. The UN Special Envoy commended Afghanistan on the remarkable progress made over the past decade in the education sector. The major donors on the education sector reaffirmed their commitments to Afghanistan.The half yearly meeting of the W.B. and the I.M.F., also called the spring meeting brings together ministers of finance, central bankers, private executives and academics of different country to discuss issues of global concern.
