World Bank approves $220mn credit to Bihar for rehabilation

The World Bank has approved a 220-million US dollars credit to Bihar to support its rebuilding efforts in areas affected by 2008 Kosi floods.The credit given for the Bihar Kosi Flood Recovery Project will finance reconstruction of about One lakh houses, 90 bridges and 290 kilometres of rural roads in flood affected areas. A release by Bihar government said in Patna that it seeks to reduce future oriented risks by strengthening flood management capacity, restoring livelihoods, and improving the emergency response capability of the state through a provision of contingency funding. Chief Secretary, Bihar, Anup Mukherjee said, State government has been undertaking extensive reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts. Kosi floods had affected about 3.3 million people in five districts of the state while more than 500 lost their lives.
