In the Men's singles event of the Badminton World Championship at Glasgow, India's Ajay Jayaram beat Netherland's Mark Caljouw in straight games to advance to the pre-quarterfinals. He defeated Caljouw 21-13, 21-18. Jayaram will next take on two-time defending champion Chinese Chen Long. In another Men's singles event, Sameer Verma lost to Rajiv Ouseph 20-22, 9-21 In the Women's singles,National champion Rituparna Das also lost to Kirsty Gilmour 16-21, 13-21. The women's doubles pair of Sanjana Santosh and Arathi Sara Sunil also bowed out with a 14-21 15-21 loss to Chinese combination of Bao Yixin and Yu Xiaohan.
