World AIDS Day is being observed today to raise public awareness about Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome, AIDS. The theme this year is ‘Ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic: resilience and impact.'<br />”&nbsp;<br />”The day also provides an opportunity for people to unite in the fight against HIV and to show support for those living with HIV.<br />”&nbsp;<br />”WHO said, the global HIV epidemic is not over and may be accelerating during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a devastating impact on communities and countries. In 2019, there were 38 million people living with HIV infection. In 2019, 6 lakh 90 thousand people died from HIV-related causes and 1.7 million people were newly infected. On World AIDS Day 2020, WHO has called upon global leaders and citizens to rally for global solidarity to overcome the challenges posed by COVID-19 on the HIV response.&nbsp;<br />”&nbsp;<br />”Since the inception of the National AIDS Control Programme in 1992, India has done a commendable job in raising awareness and bringing down the number of HIV infections. It is a pandemic disease caused due to the infection of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).&lt;br /&gt;'' &lt;br /&gt;'' The day also provides an opportunity for people to unite in the fight against HIV and to show support for those living with HIV. This year, the theme is &amp;quot;Communities Make the Difference.&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;'' &lt;br /&gt;'' As per the latest estimate of 2017, there are around 21 lakh 40 thousand people living with HIV in the country. It is a pandemic disease caused due to the infection of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). <br/><br/>Under the theme-Right to health, the World Health Organization will highlight the need for the 36.7 million people living with HIV and those who are vulnerable and affected by the epidemic, to reach the goal of universal health coverage. <br/><br/>AIR Correspondent reports that under the slogan "Everybody counts", WHO will advocate for access to safe, effective, quality and affordable medicines, including diagnostics and other health commodities. It will also ensure health care services for all people in need and that they are protected against financial risks. <br/><br/>World AIDS Day celebration has become the most recognized health days celebrations internationally. It offers the key opportunity to the health organizations to increase the awareness among people, most possible access to the treatment as well as discussing the preventive measures. World AIDS is celebrated by the government organizations, NGOs, civil society and other health officials.<br/><br/>On the eve of the World AIDS Day, an exhibition was organised in New Delhi, highlighting the critical milestones achieved in the last 30 years in response to HIV in the country. A talk show and cultural performances were also held at a function with the theme 'Increasing Impact through Transparency, Accountability, and Partnerships'.<br/><br/>Health Minister J.P. Nadda will be the Chief Guest at the World AIDS Day function at JLN Stadium in New Delhi. Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel will also present there.
