Workshop on Entrepreneurship Development, Opportunities in Leather & Allied products inaugurated in Leh

Ladakh Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur inaugurated a workshop on Entrepreneurship Development, Opportunities in Leather and Allied products, in Leh. Leh and Kargil have huge potential in the field of leather and allied products.<br />'' <br />''A Report<br />''<br />''On the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, UT Administration in collaboration with Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) is conducting workshops in Leh and Kargil to create awareness and explore the opportunities in Leather industry in Ladakh. Ladakh, with a tradition of rearing animals like Goats, Sheep, Yaks and meat consumption, has a scope for opportunities in Leather industry and entrepreneurship development. Speaking on the occasion, LG RK Mathur said, the region has nearly a Five crore rupee opportunities in Leather industry. He said, Ladakh society need not be biased about venturing into the leather industry, as forefathers are using leather goods traditionally. He said, initially with a household approach entrepreneurs can maximize the employment opportunities.<br />'' <br />''Mr. Mathur also said, UT Administration will hand hold the entrepreneurs for training and financing in the region. Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) Director Dr. KJ Shriraam said that the Institute is training programmes in tandem with the industry with 70% employability. <br />''<br />''Apart from unskilled to skilled, Mr. Shreeram said CLRI provided over 40 lakh direct employments including 40 percent women, in the leather industry. He assured that CLRI would extend all training and hand holding to support entrepreneurs in Ladakh. Dr Shriraam said, the leather industry is sustainable and one of the best managed industries with environment friendly practices.<br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;"> UT Commerce and Industries secretary Saugat Biswas, Director Moses Kunzang also participated in the workshop. Young entrepreneurs were given glimpses of the leather world, success stories, tie-dye methods and interactions with the experts of the industry.</span><br />
