Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal has informed that the government is working on developing a framework for solarising agriculture pumps. Addressing the Annual Convention of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce via video conferencing, Mr. Goyal said this will reduce power consumption by farmers. <br/><br/>Talking about the National Energy Efficient Agriculture Pumps Programme, Mr. Goyal said that the government's priority is to provide energy efficient pumps but it is also mulling the possibility of introducing solar pumps in the second phase of the program. <br/><br/>He informed that this program will lead to an annual savings of approximately 20,000 crore rupees on agricultural subsidies or saving of 50 billion units of energy every year.
