Work on the proposal of remote voting is in progress: CEC Rajiv Kumar

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Wednesday said that the work on the proposal of remote voting is in progress as it was not an easy subject and reaching decisions in a democracy takes time.
''
''When asked about the recent all-party meeting on remote voting, Mr. Kumar during a press briefing said that the meeting was 'successful'' with representatives of recognised political parties and the issue of 30 crore ''missing voters' came for discussion. He said urban voters, youth and domestic migrants form part of the 30 crore voters who did not participate in the last Lok Sabha elections.
''
''Mr. Kumar said, everyone in the meeting agreed that this is an area where we need to work to bring all our voters to the booth to the extent possible so that they can cast their votes.
''
''The poll body has proposed introduction of 'remote voting' for domestic migrants, using a multi-constituency electronic voting machine that will retain all security features of the EVMs currently in use. Mr. Kumar said that on the demand of political parties, the deadline to respond to the Commission's concept note has been extended to February 28 from 31st of January.
