Work is on in full swing at CWG village to clean flats built for athletes and delegates

Work is on at break-neck speed at the Commonwealth Games village to clean up the 1168 flats built to accommodate athletes and delegates.With just a day to go for the arrival of the athletes and the deadline set by the Commonwealth Games Federation president Mike Fennel to expire in a few hours, the authorities have left no stone unturned to clean up the village. Yesterday, Fennel had given a deadline of 24 hours to the Games organising committee to make the flats built in 84 towers livable and hygienic.The debris of the foot- over bridge collapsed yesterday near the main venue of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium has been removed. The bridge was built to enable the spectators to cross over to the parking lot and the authorities are now working on an alternative plan.Cabinet secretary K. M. Chandrasekhar has given an assurance that everything will be ready on time and there is nothing to fear. He told news persons that the organising committee has been told to step up facilities. He said the government is in touch with the participating countries.
