President Ramnath Kovind has said that work carried out in Gujarat for taking overflowing Narmada water to the arid and drought prone areas should be implemented in the other states of the country. He was addressing the function after laying the foundation stone of Link 4 of Saurasthra Narmada Irrigation Scheme -SAUNI- Yojana.<br/> <br/>Mr. Kovind said that Gujarat is a trend setter in many social and economic schemes and became leading states in the country. He said that many such schemes like soil health cards, micro irrigation etc successful in Gujarat are being implemented in other parts of the country.<br/> <br/>AIR correspondent reports that SAUNI project, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat is aimed to fill up 115 major dams by diverting overflow of water from the Sardar Sarovar Dam on Narmada River. The work of link – 4 of SAUNI project will be completed in next two years at the cost of Rs.1500 crore.<br/> <br/>It will provide irrigation to about 2 lakh hectares land and drinking water to the adjoining towns and villages. Earlier, President also went to Ghela Somnath- an ancient Shiv Temple near Jasdan for Darshan. Governor of Gujarat O.P.Kohli, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel also spoke on this occasion.
