Won’t allow India’s progress hijack: President

Pranab Mukherjee was sworn-in as the 13th President of the country today. He was administered oath of office and secrecy by the Chief Justice of India Justice, SH Kapadia, in the Central Hall of Parliament.

Among those present were Vide-President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Meera Kumar, several members of Council of Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers, Heads of Diplomatic Missions, Members of Parliament apart from senior Civil and Military officers.

Mukherjee said the poorest of the land must feel that they were the part of the narrative of the rising India. Mukherjee said that though much had been achieved, further remained to be achieved by the coming generations of the country.

Terming terrorism as 4th World War, Mukherjee said India was on the frontline to fight the war. On corruption, the President said the greed of a few would not be allowed to hijack progress of the nation.

Earlier, Mukheree paid homage to the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi at his Samadhi 'Raj Ghat'. He also went to the memorials of other leaders to pay his homage.
