In Women's World Boxing Championships, Saweety Boora in 75kg category stormed into the pre-quarterfinals, while Neeraj Phogat in 57 Kg category lost to China's Qiao Jieru at Ulan Ude in Russia yesterday.
Saweety Boora registered a comfortable win 5-0 against Mongolia's Myagmarjargal Munkhbat setting a pre-quarters clash with Wales' second-seeded Lauren Price.
Neeraj Phogat (57kg) bowed out after a contentious loss in the first-round bout against China's Qiao Jieru. However, Phogat gave it her all in the clash but didn't find favour with the judges who ruled against her in a 2-3 split decision. The Indian contingent lodged an official complaint against the decision in accordance with the International Boxing Association (AIBA) rules but it was turned down by the technical committee.
Today, former World champion and five-time Asian gold medalist Sarita Devi (60kg) will take the ring against Natalia Shadrina of Russia, while debutant Nandini (81kg) will be challenged by Germany's Irina-Nicoletta Schonberger.
