Women's rights body urges govt to stop hate mongering religious gatherings in Bangladesh

<span style="color: #222222;">A Women's rights body from Bangladesh has asked the government to stop religious meetings, known as Waz Mahfils, where hate speeches are delivered against other religions and women.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">A delegation of the women's organisation Amrai Pari Paribarik Nirjaton Protirodh Jote met the Minister for Religious Affairs Md. Faridul Haque Khan on Sunday and placed its demands before the government.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The delegation presented a five-point charter of demands to the Minister demanding immediate stopping of anti-women statements made at such gatherings.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">It also called upon the Ministry to form a special cell to initiate action against such speeches in the gatherings ostensibly centred on religion.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Such groups should be brought under law to stop violent and hateful speeches against women and other religions.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The delegation also demanded that training should be organised to promote religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The delegation also handed over some videos to the Minister showing the hateful content being delivered at these gatherings which go against the Constitutional provision of Bangladesh and violate human rights.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">In a social media statement, the Amrai Pari Paribarik Nirjaton Protirodh Jote said that in the context of the growing influence of fundamentalism and terrorism in the world, the government should keep a close eye on such gatherings which promote religious hatred and violence against women. </span><br />
