Women's Reservation Bill to be presented in RS on International Women's Day

The confrontation between political parties on the issue of Women's Reservation Bill is on the cards. The Bill is scheduled to come up in the Rajya Sabha on International Women's Day on March 8th. While the ruling Congress, and the two main Opposition groups BJP and the Left are keen to pass the bill in the present form, the Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janta Dal, Janta Dal United are opposing the Bill in the present form.<br/><br/>Congress President Mrs Sonia Gandhi, while addressing the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting called the Women's Reservation Bill as one of the most important legislations and called for its early passage.<br/><br/>The main Opposition BJP says it will support the bill in its present form when it comes in the Parliament. Party Leader Venkaiyah Naidu told reporters today that it is for the government to bring about a consensus among political parties.<br/><br/>RJD Chief Mr Lalu Prasad Yadav says there is no change in the party stand on the issue and demanded quota for scheduled and backward classes in the bill. He also described it as a move to divide the opposition when the government has been cornered on the price rise issue. The Chairperson of Women's Commission Ms Girija Vyas described the move as an important step toward inclusion of women in decision making process. Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said they will not allow the passage of the Bill. The Shiv Sena however said that the party is in favor of deciding the reserved seats themselves and not by Election Commission.<br/><br/>
