Women's Junior Hockey World Cup: India storm into quarterfinals

India has stormed into the quarterfinals of the Women's Junior Hockey World Cup at Monchengladbach, Germany. In their must-win final Pool-C fixture yesterday, the Indian eves showcased a powerful performance, brushing aside Russia, 10-1.Vandana Katariya was the highest goal scorer for India with 3 goals. Poonam Rani, Ritusha Kumani Arya and Rani found the net twice each, while Manjit Kaur scored the tenth goal for India.Sushila Chanu-led India, then, waited for the result of the other Pool-C match between Australia and New Zealand, which ended in a 3-3 draw, making it the second team after Australia from Group-C, to book a quarterfinal berth.The other teams which made it to the last-eight stage were, the United States and the Netherlands from Pool-A, Argentina and South Africa from Pool-B, and Spain and England from Pool-D.In the quarterfinals tomorrow, India will take on Spain, the Netherlands will meet South Africa, Argentina will clash with the United States, and Australia will play England.The semi-finals will be played on Friday, while the title clash of the competition is slated for Sunday.
