The Women's Asian Hockey Champions Trophy began in Ranchi, Jharkhand today. In the first match, defending champions Japan defeated Malaysia by 3 goals to nil.

The second match will be played between China and Korea. Korea has won the trophy three times.

India will kick start its campaign against Thailand later today. India won the title once in 2016.
