Women cells were created in every police district in Delhi with the objective not only to provide support and protection against physical and mental violence but even involve various stakeholders to resolve the problems of marital discord. Our correspondent says more than 1360 couples were reunited last year through the efforts of these women .<br/><br/>While the police has come in for lot of criticism in the recent past thanks to crime women cells out of over 8330 complaints from women and victims of marital discords received in 2009 from the capital nearly 3580 cases were decided and in over 1360 cases couples were re united . Legal action had to be initiated only in 513 cases. As the Joint Commissioner of Sudhir Yadan tells us that that the idea is to fist provide women victim a plaform for an an alternative redressal before entering into litigation.<br/><br/>What is also important is that women are made aware of their rights and gender friendly environment is ensured at the the police stations so that the women are not afraid of approaching the police.
