Finance Minister exuded hope that a woman would soon occupy the coveted post of the RBI Governor, so far a male domain. Addressing a gathering at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Reserve Bank of India, in New Delhi on Saturday Pranab Mukherjee said up to now no lady has become the Governor of RBI. He was hopeful that it will be changed soon. He commended Reserve Bank’s role in battling the recent financial crisis, which helped the country in overcoming the crisis.<br/><br/>Earlier, President Pratibha Patil, the first woman to occupy the nation's highest job, released a commemorative stamp to mark the occasion. She asked the apex bank to consider evolving a mechanism to give loans to women Self-Help Groups, particularly those below the poverty line, at interest rates not exceeding four per cent per annum.
