Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said the issue of withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Jammu and Kashmir should not be politicized. Azad told reporters in Jammu that it is a very sensitive issue and he would request all political parties of Jammu and Kashmir and outside J & K to leave this issue to the Chief Minister and the Union Home Minister of India. He also said, it is for the Home Minister to take it up with the Defence Ministry.Meanwhile the Congress today called for consensus among all stakeholders on AFSPA. Party spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters in New Delhi that although the state government is an important stakeholder and its views have to be given due weightage, the appropriate thing will be that all stakeholders must evolve a consensus before any decision is taken.The Army maintains that any tampering with the law will handicap their capability to conduct counter insurgency operations.Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omer Abdullah on Thursday reiterated his stand that time has come to move ahead in the process of withdrawing Armed Forces Special Powers Act from some areas in the state where peace is prevailing and the Army has not been operating for quite sometime.
