The national capital is fully geared to host the 19th Common Wealth Games beginning on Sunday. The Delhi Games will be the biggest ever Common Wealth Games in terms of participatants with more than 6,700 athletes and officials confirming their entries for the event. It will surpass participation in Melbourne four years ago, which stood at 5,766 athletes and officials. Over 1,300 of these checked into the Games Village on Friday. The Indian contingent was in the spotlight at the Games Village where they hoisted the tri-colour amid cheers from scores of volunteers and athletes. Olympic gold-medalist shooter Abhinav Bindra was named the host country's flagbearer for the opening ceremony. He will lead a jumbo 619-member contingent — 379 men and 240 women — in the grand ceremony to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium tomorrow. The Delhi Government has directed all shops and commercial establishments in the national capital to remain closed on the days of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games. Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall will leave for Delhi today on a three-day visit to declare open the Commonwealth Games. According to official sources in London, the Prince will also spend time with athletes from a broad cross-section of Commonwealth countries. The News Service Division of All India Radio will bring six special bulletins of five minutes each in Hindi and English during the Commonwealth Games from October 3 to 14. The Special News bulletin in English can be heard at 12.10 P.M., 04.10 PM and 07.10 P.M. and the Hindi News bulletins will be at 12.05 PM, 04.05 P.M. and 07.05 P.M. in FM Gold Channel. There will be Commonwealth Games special coverage in all major bulletins.
