Winter storms are causing severe disruption along the eastern sea coast of the United States. Hundreds of flights have been cancelled, including international ones to the north-east. Forecasters in the United States issued a blizzards warning across large parts of north east America including New York and Boston. A state of emergency has been declared in Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia. In New York, snow has been falling heavily. Gale force winds and heavy snowfall are expected to continue today. New Yorkers and people elsewhere in the north-east have been told to expect at last 30 centimetres of snow as the blizzards move north.Air traffic in Russia has been severely disrupted by bad weather. Power failure closed Moscow's airport for ten hours. Many other Russian airports had also to close, stranding or delaying thousands of people. Freezing rain damaged power supplies to Moscow's trams and trolley buses.
