The winter session of Parliament begins on Thursday. The month-long session is likely to be a stormy affair. Various issues ranging from alleged telecom scam to alleged involvement of former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Madhu Koda in corruption case along with price rise will be raised by the opposition in the session that concludes on 22nd of December.

Maoist violence, problems of cane growers may also likely to generate heat in the session. The opposition BJP has decided to bring an Adjournment Motion in the Lok Sabha on the first day itself on the issue. Bills seeking to enhance reservation for women to 50 per cent in Panchayats at all levels, establishment of an Equal Opportunities Commission for the welfare of minorities and National Commission for Heritage Sites are on the government's priority list. It is still unclear whether the government plans to bring the Women's Reservation Bill to give 33 per cent quota for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures, in the session. The Bill is at present with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law and Justice.
