Winter Session of Parliament advanced by a week to enable Obama to address Parliament

The Winter Session of Parliament is being advanced by a week to enable US President Barack Obama to address the Parliament likely on the ninth of November.The Parliamentary Affairs Minister P K Bansal told reporters that plans to afoot to convene the month-long session from November eight and that the joint address could take place the next day. President Obama, who took over as US President in January last year, will be undertaking his first state visit to India with an aim of pushing the bilateral ties to new heights. Former US President Bill Clinton had addressed a jointsession of Parliament during his visit in 2000. Replying a volley of questions, Mr Bansal strongly criticised the mock parliament conducted by some members. Describing it as unfortunate, he said that it is worst moment in the Parliamentary democracy.Giving details of the business transacted during the monsoon session which concluded yesterday, Mr Bansal said 24 bills were passed during the session by the two houses.
