Winter session of Parliament adjourned for the day after obituary references

Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day today after paying tributes to its sitting and former members, who died during the inter-session of Parliament. The Lok Sabha mourned the death of its two sitting members Hemendra Chandra Singh of BJD and Kapil Krishna of Trinamool Congress.

The Rajya Sabha paid tributes to its sitting Congress member Murali Deora, who passed away this morning. Earlier, a newly elected member Meghraj Jain of BJP took oath of the House.

The Lok Sabha also expressed grief over the loss of lives and property in the recent floods in Jammu and Kashmir, stampede at Dussehra mela in Patna and devastating cyclone Hudhud in coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced new members of his Council of Ministers to the House. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan administered the oath of office to three newly elected members.

Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Mr Modi expressed hope that the winter session will be productive as the people have vested their confidence in all the members of Parliament.
