The winter session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly got underway on Friday, with the House paying homage to the memory of the 26/11 martyrs on the second anniversary of the Mumbai carnage. The House observed few minutes silence, as a mark of respect to all those who sacrificed their lives. As soon as the House started transacting its business, Opposition member, James K. Sangma of Nationalist Congress Party raised the issue of the short duration of the ensuing session, which has just six working days. The House also paid homage to former West Bengal Chief Minister Siddhartha Shankar Ray, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Dr Sapam Budhichandra, former Meghalaya Legislator, Prof Alexander Warjri, for Meghalaya Minister Beckstar K. Sangma.The first day of the winter session also saw chief minister Dr. Mukul Sangma laying on the table of the House the annual report of the Meghalaya State Information Commission, 2009, notifications on the Meghalaya Right to Information Rules, 2010 and amendment of Meghalaya Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Rules, 2006.
