The five-day Winter Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly began at Dispur today. On the opening day of the Assembly, the State Health and Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma laid four bills on the floor of the House. The Bills, among others, included- ‘The Assam Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to property) Bill, 2011. It seeks to enact a law to prohibit violence against doctors on- duty making it a non-bailable offence.The State Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi, who is also holding the portfolio of Finance, laid a proposal to grant supplementary Demands of Grants to the tune of 3463 crore 72 lakh rupees for the current fiscal year in the Assembly.Later, the House adopted a resolution unanimously on awarding the country’s highest civilian award- Bharat Ratna posthumously to Music Maestro, composer Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
