Ninth seed Kei Nishikori and 12th seed Joe Tsonga won their first round matches easily as they beat their opponents in straight sets. However 20th rank N. Kyrgios was ousted following injury after he had lost both the first two sets against P. Herbert. World number one and local favourite Andy Murray began his title defence against Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan. Murray won the first two sets. The third set was in progress a shortwhile ago. In women's singles, world number two Simona Halep and Venus Williams sailed past round one with easy victories. Defending women's champion Serena Williams is not taking part in the tournament.Rafael Nadal, Stanislas Wawrinka will also play their opening round matches today in Men's Singles. In Women's event two-time winner Petra Kvitova, and local girl Johanna Konta will have their first round matches today.Sania Mirza, Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna are among the Indians taking part in the Doubles and will begin their campaigns later in the tournament.
