Wimbledon runner-up Radwanska out in first round

Number Two seed and Wimbledon runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska has made a shock first round exit from the women's singles tennis competition of the London Olympics. Playing under the Wimbledon Centre Court roof due to sporadic heavy rain showers yesterday, Poland's Radwanska crashed out 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 to world number 24 Julia Goerges of Germany. Russia's Maria Sharapova marked her Olympic debut with a 6-2, 6-0 demolition of Israel's Shahar Peer. The 25-year old world number three carried her country's flag at Friday's opening ceremony. Sharapova will play Britain's Laura Robson or Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in the last 32. In the men's section, Britain's Andy Murray, Serbia Novak Djokovic and France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga advanced to the second round. Fourth seed Murrray recorded an easy 6-3, 6-3 win over Stanislas Wawrinka. Djokovic and Tsonga overcame their rivals in three sets. Djokovic defeated Italy's Fabio Fognini 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 and Tsonga beat Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.
