Wimbledon: Dominic Thiem becomes third major men's seed to fall

In Tennis, French Open finalist Dominic Thiem has become the third top-10 Men's seed to suffer a first-round exit from the Wimbledon Championships in London.

The fifth-seeded Austrian lost to American Sam Querrey 7-6, 6-7, 3-6, 0-6 yesterday. Sixth seed Alexander Zverev and seventh-placed Stefanos Tsitsipas were knocked out on the opening day of the tournament on Monday.

Eight-time champion Roger Federer survived a first-set scare to see off South African debutant Lloyd Harris and reach the Wimbledon second round yesterday. The Swiss is aiming for a record-extending ninth Men's title.

In Women's Singles, Maria Sharapova made a first-round exit, while Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber advanced to the second round.

India will begin its Men's Doubles campaign today. Leander Paes and Divij Sharan, with separate partners, and the pair of Purav Raja and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan will play their first-round matches.
