First round matches of the 2016 Wimbledon Tennis Championship began in London today. The 29 year old World No.1 Novak Djokovic, who is chasing a third successive Wimbledon title, reached the second round of men's singles along with David Ferror and Maarin Silich. In women's singles, Samantha Jane Stosur, Venus Williams and Sabain Lisisci won their respective matches in the first round. Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna, who will represent India at the Rio Olympics as a team, may clash against each other at the Wimbledon pre-quarterfinals as they have been drawn in the top half of the draw at the men's doubles event. Paes and Bopanna are the only Indians competing in the men's events. In the women's doubles, top seeds Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis will clash against their first round opponents. The Women's singles final is on July 9 and the men's singles final on July 10.
