In Women's singles event, five time Wimbledon Champion Serena Williams ease passed unseeded Margarita Gasparyan of Russia 6-4, 6-1 to move in the next round. World number 4, Maria Sharapova of Russia cruised to the second round after defeating British Johanna Konta 6-2, 6-2. 6th seed Lucie Safarova of Czech and 7th seed Serbian Ana Ivanovic also surged to the second round.India's campaign also took off last night as in Men's Doubles event Rohan Bopanna along with his Romanian partner Florin Mergea defeated American-Czech pair of Tim Smyczek-Jiri Vesely, 6-3, 7-6, 6-1 to move in the second round.In today's matches, women's defending champion Petra Kvitova will start defense of her title.
