At the Wimbledon tennis championships, Stan Wawrinka has bowed out of the Men's Singles competition. In the first round at the Centre Court in London today, the 5th seeded Swiss star lost in four sets to Russian Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. French Open runner-up just three weeks ago, the world's 3rd ranked Wawrinka, was bothered by his bad left knee. The 32-year old iced his knee during changeovers and never was able to summon his best tennis. Wawrinka won the Australian Open in 2014, the French Open in 2015 and the US Open in 2016. But he never has been able to excel at the All England Club, where his best showing is getting to the quarterfinals. This was Wawrinka's sixth defeat in the first round at Wimbledon.For the 21-year old Medvedev, who is ranked 49th, this was the first time he had won a Grand Slam match. A year ago at Wimbledon, Medvedev lost in the first round of qualifying.
