Wimbledon: Bhupathi-Mirnyi sail into 2nd round

Indian ace Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Max Mirnyi have sailed into the second round of the men's doubles event of the Wimbledon tennis tournament . In London yesterday, the duo recorded a straight-set victory over the Argentine pair of Maximo Gonzalez and Sebastian Prieto. The fourth-seeded Indo-Belarus pair won 7-5, 6-1, 7-5.They now meet British duo of Jamie Delgado and Joshua Goodall in the second round. The Jamie-Joshua duo beat Spanish pair of Nicolas Almagro and Santiago Ventura 5-7 7-6 6-1 63 in another opening round match. Two other Indians are also in the fray in the doubles event.Leander Paes and his Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy, seeded third in the grass court Grand Slam, won their opening round match over South African Rik De Voest and German Mischa Zverev 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.Rohan Bopanna and his Pakistani partner Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi had defeated the pair of Somdev Devvarman of India and Treat Conrad Huey of Philippines in the first round. While, British fourth seed Andy Murray gave a royal command performance as he raced into the third round at Wimbledon with a 6-3 6-4 6-2 win over Finland's Jarkko Nieminen in front of Queen Elizabeth II yesterday.Murray had the task of entertaining the Queen on her first visit to the All England Club since 1977 and the Scot rose to the challenge with a dominant display. It earned a clash with French 23rd seed Gilles Simon in the next round. The 23-year-old Murray had a golden chance to reach his first Wimbledon final last year in the absence of the injured Rafael Nadal, but he fell just short after losing his semi-final against Andy Roddick in four sets.As usual at Wimbledon, it falls to Murray to carry the weight of a nation's expectations on his shoulders. But on this evidence the world number four looks capable of coping with the pressure. After acknowledging the monarch's presence with a brief bow to the royal box, Murray got down to business.
