In Women's singles event, five time Wimbledon Champion Serena Williams ease passed unseeded Margarita Gasparyan of Russia 6-4, 6-1 to move in the next round. World number 4, Maria Sharapova of Russia cruised to the second round after defeating British Johanna Konta 6-2, 6-2. 6th seed Lucie Safarova of Czech and 7th seed Serbian Ana Ivanovic also surged to the second round.
