Karnataka Governor H R Bharadwaj has said that once the recommendation of the Lokayukta on illegal mining is submitted, he will deal with the report under Sections 12 and 13 of the Lokayuktha Act. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a programme in Bangalore, the Governor said he would take action if the report had substantial evidence against those involved in the multi-crore rupee mining scam. During a press conference in Bangalore on Friday, Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde has again sought professional and physical protection from the State Government for the five Indian Forest Service officers, who have investigated the illegal mining in the state for the Lokayukta. The Congress, which is holding a day-long protest in Bangalore today, has sought a CBI probe in the phone tapping allegation made by the Lokayukta. Congress Spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said in New Delhi that the BJP had lost moral ground to head the government in Karnataka and the Yaddyurappa Government had no right to continue. The CPIM has also urged the Karnataka Chief Minister to resign. BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the report was still not finalised. He, however, said there could be some truth in the speculation that is going around.
