Will take all steps to protect Indian sportspersons' interests : Sports Min

The government today said that the suspension of Indian Olympic Association by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is unlikely to have any immediate major impact on sports in the country or to Indian sportspersons. In a statement in the Rajya Sabha, in response to a calling attention motion, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Jitendra Singh said the IOC and the Olympic Council of Asia have clarified that Indian portspersons will be able to participate in international sports events but only under the flag of IOC. Expressing confidence that the issues between IOC and IOA will be resolved in time, Mr. Singh said government is committed to take all possible measures to protect the interests of Indian sportspersons and to ensure their participation in international sports events under the national flag.
