Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has said that New Delhi will take all efforts to help in restoration of normal life in northern and eastern parts of Srilanka.In a letter to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, copies of which were released to the media, the Prime Minister said India would do all that it could to enable Tamils in Sri Lanka to live a life of dignity and self respect. He said India had committed Rs 500-crore help through which rapid rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons in the island country will be taken up.Listing the plans of New Delhi for rehabilitating the displaced Tamils, Singh said India would construct 50,000 houses and will try to restore normal economic activity in these areas by building infrastructure and promoting sustainable livelihood.The Prime Minister in his letter also urged Karunanidhi to give his views on how the process of genuine reconciliation through political agreement can be taken forward to resolve the ethnic issue in the island country once for all.
